Hauwa Umar Aliyu is an educationist and community development advocate that ensures the commitment and involvement of local authorities and community members in the implementation of sustainable development initiatives, as well as support the process to form networks with various stakeholders such as development partners, private sector, research organizations and academic institutions in mobilizing their support on sustainable development initiatives. She has significant experience in working with Development Partners, particularly, UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) Programmes as a full-time and short-term consultant (most times on a pro-bono basis) in the education and health sectors. One of her community-based education and community development experience in working with nomads across several states in northern Nigeria as Director of Programmes, Miyetti-Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Jigawa state chapter. She played a central role in the establishment of one hundred and eight (108) nomadic Fulani community-based schools with the support of Education, sector support programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN/DFID).
She is also volunteering for the Arewa Research & Development Project (ARDP), which is a platform working to unlock the huge potentials of Northern Nigerian States, especially in the areas of agriculture, education, health, job creation towards sustainable development under responsible and accountable leadership. Hauwa has previously served as a Special Assistant (S.A) to the Jigawa State Governor on Women Empowerment supporting the Government in initiating programmes that enhanced the lives of women through job creation, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes. Prior to that, she worked with the Jigawa State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) as a classroom teacher as well as a Vice-Principal. Hauwa’s other experience also extends to the area of planning and implementation of maternal and child health programmes.
She is the founder of Iya Hauwa Foundation (www.ihf.org.ng and also a trustee with ADSI.
